Let The Game Begin…

While most of you are still in sleepy wonderland, our fiercest warrior has began his quest to conquer one of his toughest race to date.

The day before was a simple low key registration and kit collection. The the motto of the race sounds very directional and focused – “No Shortcuts”.

After a simple flag off in the early hours of 6am, the challengers roared off with a rowdy war cry and the shuffling of the trail shoes against the rocky road began.

It was good weather to begin with – Cool and Quiet. They were soon greeted with a friendly morning sun that will turn vicious as the day progresses.

What lies before the horizon was the face of terror – Diablo. The majestic mountain could be seen rising from behind the clouds as if it had just woken up from its peaceful sleep. Ready to give the Warriors the first taste of “Blood”.

The entrance to the Catacombs – the first level of the underground battle. Here we witnessed the conglomeration of the world’s finest ultra-marathoners in the region as they waited to cross the first constriction point. Spirits were high and a good time to take short break.

After the “long” wait to cross the bridge, it was catch up time. Uncle Teow was on radio silence as he had to focus to hasten his pace and catch up on lost time. Finally, the first checkpoint WS1 at 11.4km. 500m above sea level. This was just a warm up run. Nothing too fancy yet.
